The Gallery-Growlery

For an art exhibition, I created a multimedia installation that featured a live gallery performance with sound-based sculptures that I created from conception to finish. I, in the same gallery, growled with a hand-crafted object in my mouth and recorded it. Then, the recording was edited into four multi-channel audio via the software Reaper. Each sculpture has a transducer attached to transmit sound from one of the audio channels. On occasions, I growled with my sculptures during the exhibition hours while my sculptures sounded off during the entire gallery hours.

My 3D models sometimes take on physical forms. To create several components of the installation, I used the following workflows to help achieve the final work: Maya to Rhino to GeoMagic to Partworks 3D to ShopBot for 3D CNC milling; and Illustrator to Partworks 2D to ShopBot for 2D CNC milling. I used these workflows to mill extruded polystyrene, plywood, or MDF. A few of the workflow images may be found below.
